The Rainland Fly Casters monthly meetings are at 6:45pm on the 3rd Thursday of each month at El Compadre restaurant in Warrenton, OR (119 S. Main Street). Members typically arrive around 5:30pm for dinner prior to the meeting.

The Rainland Fly Casters club will have an informal fly-tying night where members are encouraged to tie a couple of their favorite patterns and share information about why they chose their patterns (see the newsletter for more details). If you plan to tie, please bring a vise and enough materials to tie several flies.

Haley and Tanner from Upper Left Adventures will present creative ways to utilize technology in your fishing adventures, sharing their tips and tricks for leveraging social media and taking the best phots and videos on your mobile devices.

Topic: Washington Fly Fishing: From Desert to Salt
David Paul Williams seminar will begin with Desert Lakes and end with Puget Sound Beaches, covering the rivers and lakes between those two areas of Washington state. There may even be some information on Olympic Peninsula Rivers, so come out to enjoy this jam-packed program on fly fishing throughout our neighbor to the north.

The Rainland Fly Casters club next monthly meeting will be on August 17th. Club member Henry Hoffman will conduct a fly-tying demonstration on productive stillwater fly patterns.

Rainland Fly Casters club member Gabe Sutton will provide a great overview of fly fishing our local waters for Redtail Surfperch, an exciting and accessible fishery that is under appreciated on the Oregon Coast.

Topic: Cutthroat Trout History and Biology
Jeff Gottfried has 45 years of experience as a science and environmental educator, museum director, and researcher. He’ll provide a presentation on the history and biology of cutthroat trout just in time for most of our local rivers and streams to open for cutthroat fishing.

Club Program Coordinator, Cameron Pierce, will share excerpts from his book, "Taut Lines, Extraordinary True Fishing Stories". If you want to learn how to tell better fishing stories and improve your writing skills, this is the presentation you need to check out.

Topic: Fly Tying and Craft Beer Night
Come out to the Bridge and Tunnel for a night of fly tying and craft beer with Rainland Fly Casters, Spawn Fly Shop, Little Beast Brewing, and Scuttlebutt Brewing. Bring your vise if you feel like tying, or simply enjoy talking fishing with club members and breweries in attendance. The event will run from 5-7pm. However, feel free to get there earlier and stay later.

Topic: Fly Fishing the Warm Springs River
Since 2013 Elke and Alysia Littleleaf (Littleleaf Guide Service) have been guiding the 39 miles of the Deschutes River on the Warm Springs Indian Reservation, offering world class fly fishing for Rainbow Trout and Steelhead. Come hear their talk on fly fishing the Warm Springs River.

Topic: Fly Fishing Poetry
Henry Hughes is the Oregon Book Award winning author and editor of numerous books, including Back Seat with Fish and The Art of Angling: Poems about Fishing. Henry will present an introduction to fly fishing poetry and lead a workshop where club members will try our hand at writing fly fishing poetry.

Topic: ODFW's Chum Salmon Reintroduction Project
Rainland Fly Caster president, Derek Wiley, will show a documentary he produced on ODFW's Chum Salmon Reintroduction Project. Once abundant in the Lower Columbia River Basin, years of overfishing, habitat degradation, altered hydrology, and other land-use impacts have dramatically reduced chum salmon populations in the basin. Learn about ODFW's efforts to reintroduce and recover chum salmon in local rivers and throughout the Lower Columbia River basin.
